Identity politics in Floridaâs Governor's race runs counter to MLKâs dream
Excerpt: If Democrat Andrew Gillum defeats Republican Ron DeSantis, Floridians will make history by electing the stateâs first black governor. Itâs an exciting prospect for many voters.
Bottom Line: I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Hereâs whatâs sad. More than 55 years later we have stories being advanced based nothing more than skin color and how excited certain people would be based on a manâs skin color. Itâs exactly the antithesis of MLKâs Dream. Itâs a false premise. If Florida elects Andrew Gillum under the advanced premise of his skin color â it's a guarantee that race relations wonât improve. Will the day ever arrive in which we will truly be advancing ideas, and candidacies based on the content of character and ideas, rather than superficial characteristics? Why is it that the left and allies in the media continue to advance identity politics while also paying rhetorical homage to MLK? Itâs hypocritical.
